Peer-Review Process

Khasanah Ilmu - Jurnal Pariwisata Dan Budaya Online is published by the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika.

All manuscripts submitted to Khasanah Ilmu – Journal of Tourism and Culture undergo a thorough single-blind peer-review process to ensure academic quality, originality, and relevance. In this system, reviewers are aware of the authors’ identities, while authors do not know the reviewers involved. Each submission is evaluated by experts in the appropriate field to maintain high scholarly standards and uphold ethical publication practices.

1. Initial Screening

The Editor-in-Chief or assigned Editor conducts an initial assessment to determine whether the manuscript aligns with the journal’s aims, scope, and formatting guidelines. Manuscripts that do not meet these criteria will be rejected at this stage. A plagiarism check is also performed, and submissions with a similarity score above 20% will be automatically rejected. If formatting or structural issues are identified, the manuscript may be returned to the author for revision and resubmission. Manuscripts that pass this stage proceed to the review phase.

2. Reviewer Assignment

The Editor or Section Editor appoints two to three qualified reviewers with relevant expertise. Since the journal uses a single-blind system, reviewers have access to author information, but their own identities remain confidential. Reviewers are selected based on expertise, absence of conflicts of interest, institutional diversity, and availability. Invitations to review are typically issued within one week of the initial screening.

3. Review Process

Reviewers evaluate the manuscript based on several key aspects, including the introduction, methodology, results, discussion, and conclusion. The standard review period is one week. Reviewers may recommend acceptance, minor revision, major revision, or rejection. Constructive feedback is provided to help authors improve the quality of their work.

4. Editorial Decision

The final decision is made by the Editor-in-Chief or delegated Editor after considering all reviewer reports. If there is a substantial disagreement between reviewers, the Editor may invite an additional reviewer for further assessment. All decisions are communicated through the journal’s online system. The average duration from submission to initial decision is approximately two weeks.

5. Revision Procedure

If revisions are required, authors must address all comments provided by reviewers and submit a revised manuscript with highlighted changes, along with a response letter explaining how each point was addressed. The revision timeline is generally one week for minor revisions and two weeks for major revisions. Manuscripts requiring major revisions may undergo an additional round of review, while minor revisions are usually evaluated directly by the editorial team.

6. Copyediting, Proofreading, and Publication

Accepted manuscripts proceed to the copyediting stage, followed by proofreading. Authors may be asked to confirm or correct minor details during this step. Once final adjustments are completed, the manuscript enters production and is prepared for publication. Only manuscripts that meet all academic, ethical, and formatting standards will be published in Khasanah Ilmu – Journal of Tourism and Culture.
