Publication Ethics & Malpractice Statement (PEMS)

The Jurnal Pariwisata Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement clarifies the ethical behaviour expected from all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher. The journal is managed and published by the Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) of Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika.

This statement follows the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.

 

Publication Ethics for Jurnal Pariwisata

Jurnal Pariwisata upholds ethical standards to ensure the integrity and quality of scientific publications. The journal publishes theoretical and empirical research that advances tourism studies. Ethical publication practices reflect the professionalism of authors and supporting institutions and ensure that published research benefits the academic community and society. All manuscripts submitted to the journal undergo a blind peer-review process to maintain scientific rigour and credibility.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

1.   Publication Decisions means the Chief Editor is responsible for deciding which manuscripts are eligible for publication. All publication stages are supervised by the Chief Editor and the editorial board. Decisions are based on editorial evaluation, reviewer recommendations, and compliance with journal standards, originality checks (plagiarism screening), layout and copyright verification

2. Fair Evaluation (Non-Discrimination) means evaluating manuscripts based on academic merit alone, without discrimination based on authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic background, nationality, or political philosophy.

3.  Confidentiality means maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and prohibits sharing information with unauthorized individuals.

4.  Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest means must not use unpublished materials from submitted manuscripts for personal research without written consent from the authors.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

1.  Contribution to Editorial Decisions means assisting editors in making publication decisions and improving manuscripts through constructive feedback.

2.  Promptness means notifying the editor if unable to complete the review within the allocated time. Editors may assign another reviewer to maintain the timely publication process.

3. Confidentiality means all manuscripts received for review must be treated confidentially and discussed only with authorized editorial staff.

4.   Objectivity means conducting research objectively, focusing on academic quality without personal criticism of authors.

5.  Acknowledgement of Sources means identifying relevant published work not cited by the authors and reporting any indication of plagiarism.

6.  Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest means must not review manuscripts where financial, institutional, or relational conflicts of interest exist.

 

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

1.  Reporting Standards means providing accurate data and sufficient detail to allow replication. Fraudulent or inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.

2.  Data Access and Retention means required to provide raw data for editorial review and should retain such data after publication.

3.  Originality and plagiarism mean ensuring that the submitted work is entirely original. If other works are used, proper acknowledgement and citation are required. Plagiarism in any form results in automatic rejection.

4.   Multiple or concurrent publication means not submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.

5.   Acknowledgement of sources means citing all sources that influenced their work and including complete references.

6.  Authorship means only individuals who significantly contributed to the research should be listed as authors. All authors must approve the final manuscript before submission.

7.  Hazardous Materials and Human/Animal Subjects means that if the research involves hazardous chemicals, equipment, or procedures, authors must clearly identify these in the manuscript.

8.   Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest means must disclose all financial support and potential conflicts of interest.

9.   Fundamental Errors in Published Works means must notify the editor promptly if significant errors are discovered in their published work and cooperate in correcting or retracting the paper.

The publisher, LPPM of Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika, ensures:

  • Integrity of the academic record
  • No influence of commercial interests on editorial decisions
  • Support for ethical oversight and plagiarism screening
